Hello All. My wife finished 6 months of chemo (first A/C then weekly taxotere) on July 12. However, since the middle of May she`s had a nagging dry cough. It usually comes in fits that last 10 to 15 seconds. The coughs are non-productive, but sometimes she coughs so hard she gags. (if she`d had a TRAM, I`m certain she have multiple hernias as a result of this cough.) X-ray and CAT scan show nothing unusual. Maybe bronch spasms? She does have significant edema to her torso, limbs and head as a result of the steroids that go in with the chemo. Has anyone else seen or experienced this?
Thanks and best wishes to all, Scott

Could the edema have anything to do with it? Shouldn`t the effects of the steroids be gone now? If she still has edema can they do anything for that--i.e. drain it? medication (diuretics--lacix/potassium)? If none of the above, could she have developed an allergy and asthma? Has she seen a pulmonologist?

Shot in the dark here...
My wife`s onco insisted she take Bactrim DS while taking the steroids (decadron) while undergoing chemo and radiation treatments. He wanted to ensure that she didn`t develop a lung infection as a result of the steroid dose...
She takes one pill three times a week.

She has an appointment with a pulmonologist... 3 weeks from now.
I don`t know how long the edema is suposed to last. The onc is aware of the cough (he orderd the x-ray and CAT), but he hasn`t ordered any diuretics.
She`s been allergic to dust in the past, but never had asthma. I dont think she has any wheezing noises.

Glad to hear that it is being evaluated further. Again, sorry to hear of the difficulties that she is having. Wishing her all the best!
