Due to higher co-pays planned by wife's HMO (HealthNet CA), which is through Medicare B, for Outpatient Svcs. and chemotherapy in 2004, my fiance and I want to get her on my Blue Cross plan at work.
Here come the questions:

* She's Stage IV BC patient, currently on chemo indefinitely, w/ her cancer being treated like chronic disease -- How will Blue Cross respond to our application, with us wanting to add her to my coverage?

* I'm on a crappy HMO plan, but apparently can upgrade through work if
I want better plan. Any ideas on the best? PPO? etc?

* I've read they can't legally bar her from coverage, but can limit her coverage?
True? (We live in Los Angeles, CA.)

* Is there any reason I shouldn't just call Blue Cross and ask? I don't know why, but I'm reluctant to talk to them until I've covered all my bases.

How can your fiance get on your plan without you getting married?
I don't think they can bar you wife from coverage even with a pre- exisiting condition due to the Health care Protability coverage.
No reason why you can't call Blue cross to ask a question... I have a
POS plan- which is unlimited if I use the HMO but has a 1 million dollar limit ( which would go quick with someone at stage 4). Be careful to see the limits.
My understanding you can only enroll your wife during open enrollment period...unless you have a life time event ( such as just getting married or she involuntarily loses her coverage). Alex
