Just had a mammo which showed two areas of calcification. My Dr. seemed almost certain they were cancerous. he went as far to discuss a time line for genetic testing and subsequent surgeries. I underwent an excisional biopsy and both were ruled as fibrocystic changes only. I am 38 years old and my mother was 38 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I guess I am a little confused with the terminology and scared that the diagnosis was wrong since I have 3 children under 8. Does anyone have insight. Also, the report was given verbally, my Dr. did not have the report in front of him. Am I just being paranoid? I am just so afraid they missed something !

Hi rjrt31, I am very sorry you have been threw so much. I would see if you could have the tumors laziered out for your safety, That would be me, I was also told when I found mine in the shower that it was nothing, I fought to hve it tested and I was very glad, They found out they were wrong, I had surgery and chemo in 2005 and 2006 and am very happy I made them do it. Fight and if needed get a second opinion. Let them know you have a goal to be a Grandma for your kids. Good luck! and I will be praying for you that you can get it taken care of. Take care and welcome to your other family, Debbie

Also the Dr did not do surgery right alway on my other breast, I went and got a second opinion, The other Dr did the surgery and found out it was stage 1 there and so I was very happy I did that. I hope this will help you some, You must fight to get things done for yourself and your family. Which ever way you go. Good luck again, Hope to hear from you again, Debbie

Thanks so much for the info. I guess I probably should have told you that the Dr. said he got all of it in the biopsy, but my fear is that it will come back. Are calcifications associated with fibrocysts, because I never felt anything. I was never even told I had fibrocystic breasts.Even if it is in fact " normal changes" this time, next time I may not be so lucky.I don't want to have to keep getting biopsies. That was traumatic. The scariest part is that I get an MRI once a year and a mammo once a year, so I see the Dr. every 6 months. Six months ago, I had nothing . i think I am probably overly anxious, but I am too young to risk ending up like my mom. She only lived 8 years after her diagnosis. That would make my children 12, 13, and 16, ages when they need a mom the most. I am just really nervous. Thanks for the support!

Dear rjrt31

Please stay strong and ask them if you can do it more then every 6 months. I had my test and 6 months later I was telling them about the growth, And then I was in surgery. I am glad they took it out but how fast did it grow and what do you want to do. Please remember to take care of you, Maybe the is a Medical School around that might help you feel better,( They are always wanting to learn) Good luck and you can make it, Just be strong! Take care, Debbie

hey! Thanks! I need all the prayers I can get. The Dr. just said it was fibrocystic changes and scheduled me for a follow up mammo in June, MRI in April. I am really nervous waiting that long, but he assured me all was well. genetic testing as soon as get ok from insurance company. Just alot of waiting. call me paranoid, but as fast as that grew, benign or not, makes me very nervous that it could come back just as fast, only not be benign this time. The similarities between when my mom found hers and my ordeal just hit too close to home for me. My Dr. had us convinced it was cancer and it was a blessing because we found it early and could just wipe it out. Now I'm back to what seems like a waiting game to see when it will hit. I know God has a plan. I am just trying to give it too him and live everyday with thanksgiving for all that I have, instead of worrying about what may never happen. Thanks so much for staying in touch and being such an encouragement! Jacquie

Oh my! ya know I love my Dr. but sometimes I think they don't think of us as people. If it were their wife or daughter, they would run every test as often as possible, or do whatever surgery. It's just frustrating!!! Hang in there!! Jacquie
