I knew I had another question, sorry. I have developed diabetes, presumably from the chemotherapy. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, will it go away, or is that here to stay?
I had incredible thirst throughout my chemo, and episodes of sweating, shakes, and passing out. Finally someone decided to test my blood and the diabetes is the culprit. Now that I`m testing my blood sugar levels and attempting to eat more carefully, I feel a bit better.
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

When I had chemo, they gave me steriods ( Decadron). one side effect of decadron or any steriod is elevating blood sugar. Most of the time when you remove the steriods your blood sugar goes down too. It is a warning that you are prolong to elevated blood sugars. Once you finish chemo your body should go back to normal, if you have any extra weight take it off since, extra weight can raise your blood sugar level,. Alex

I had/have high glucose levels. I was told that Decadron can raise glucose levels, and I was also told by a Diabetes Nutritionist at the hospital I go to for my treatments that stress can also raise your glucose levels. And we wouldn`t have any of that, right? I just finished treatments on June 6th after 4 rounds of Taxotere, that was after 4 rounds of AC before that. I have had high glucose levels all the way through these last rounds of chemo, and before that in 99/00 when I was given CMF for 6 months. My father had diabetes, he doesn`t have to use insulin, but does have to monitor his sugar, and eat accordingly. Guess it`s my turn now. We are going to wait abit till I`m farther out from chemo, do some more blood work, and go from there. They are trying to give the chemo and everything else they gave me during chemo a chance to leave the body. I`ve never been very active person, that also has some to do with it also. So once the we get past the next few weeks/months, there will be more excercise in my daily routine. I`m having problems with neuropathy from the Taxotere right now, which makes it painful to walk for any length of time, or for any distance. Kinda stuck right now. We`re going on vacation next weekend {7/13-7/18} to Nashville and I`m NOT even sure how I`m going to manage to walk anywhere for very long...But I`m really looking forward to the hubby and I going someplace for a date besides the hospital...lol! Maybe I`ll rent a scooter...lol! {just kidding, it`s not that bad yet} Take care there dear God bless you annie

and what chemo you`re on). Gloria was getting decadron with her gemcitabine, but it kept her up all night and seemed to prolong the side effects for an extra day or two. She asked her doctor if she could try the chemo without the decadron; things have gone somewhat better since.

I`ve been having a nice quiet weekend, as hubby is working nights {2:30pm-2:00am}. I`ve been staying in, it`s very hot here right now {here as in nw ohio/your in michigan right? no?}. But I`m cleaning up things that got left when I was going through chemo. I can move about a foot in any direction and find something to clean up. lol! Sheesh! I didn`t realize I had so much junk that has absolutely no purpose at all. So we`re bagging and dumping things. Thanks for the kind send off for my vacation. I`ve been keeping track of the weather down in Nashville and it sounds like I`m going from "the frying pan to the fire" as they say. Take care there dear God bless you annie

I blame the chemo and stress for the onset of diabetes. My mom is diabetic type II on pills. I probably would have gotten it eventually. Probably the stress and chemo just hastened it along. Chemo also makes it difficult to stay in control of blood sugar. from the chemotherapy. Has anyone else had this happen? If so, will it go away, or is that here to stay?

England in the summer? hmmm....If you pick up the tab...most certainly I`d join you....Annie on a plane? Riiight! Annie`s afraid of her shadow right now, let alone being 35,000+ miles in the air....But "this too shall pass" as the expression goes. I hope soon...as I`m getting really tired of being this fearful...But I guess it just comes with the territory....Anyone got a new map? I don`t like mine. Take care there dear God bless you annie
