Femara versus Tamoxifen

I am 72 years old and on Arimidex, but I have such joint pain even when taking 2 Celebrex a day I can hardly get across the room......obviously, it is not the medication for me......
My doctor has suggested tamoxifen, but I am fearful of it because of blood clots and stroke; I have a family history of strokes. Also I understand for postmenopausal woman that Arimidex and Femara are the better mediccations...
Has anyone gone from Arimidex to Femara with less side effects????? Any input to help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated.....

What dosage of Celebrex are you on? Initially, I was on 200 mg (2, 100 mg capsules) twice/day which didn`t help much. I increased it to 400 mg/day and it works much better. In addition, latest research suggests that Celebrex, itself, may have anti-tumor properties, being an anti-angeogenisis type of medication.

I`m on 200mg twice a day......also have you experience nausea from Celebrex???? I did not take the Arimidex this morning, just 200 mg of Celebrex, and am still nauseated. I thought it was the Arimidex......

I usually don`t have a problem if I have it with some food. I also take Doxycycline at the same time as well as thyroid medication. If I am having any dairy products (i.e. plain yogurt from free-range (non-hormone fed cattle with cinammon or granola), I will wait an hour before having it. Sometimes I feel slightly uncomfortable but no nausea. One thing that also helps me is drinking edible or potable aloe vera gel which I get in the health foods store. I don`t take it at the same time--since I want to make sure the medication dissolves--but if it can help cure cuts and burns on the outside I figured it probably could help on the inside as well.

All NSAIDs tend to cause gastric acid problems, and are often prescribed accompanied by an over-the-counter antacid, especially in the higher dose ranges. With the newer COX2 inhibitors like Celebrex the effect is supposed to be less pronounced than with the older NSAIDs like Ibuprofen, but it is still there. According to the prescribing information, 200mg Celebrex b/d more than doubles the incidence of ulcers in arthritis patients.
