right breast, high up toward my armpit area. I am 33 and have had an extensive mammography and an ultrasound, I was told that it was not cancer.
That it was more than likely fibrocystic breast. Well that has been a year ago and I am having some serious concerns. The pain is still there, now there are 3 small places, 1 larger than the other two. I have 2 small children, 4 and 5 years old and they were breastfed for half a year each. I have constant pain now and the pain is a dull ache, like the flu and only in this breast. I also have stabbing pain and burning sensation in this breast. Now I have pain in my armpit, shoulder and straight through my chest to my shoulder blade. I have an appt this week at my family doctor, but with his PA. I am afraid to wait any longer. Could someone please recommend a doctor or route I should follow with this.
Thanks for your consideration and time reading this.

Where do you live, I have a great Dr., in Great Neck,,, I believe he saved my life.
If you like to know his name.
I'd be glad to give it to you.
Just e-mail me at
P.s. I really think you should always seek a second opinion when you find something in your body that doesn't belong there.

I also had a normal mammogram 9 mos. before my diagnosis. I showed my dr. a mass that arose within days of that mammo (the same mass that was biopsied 9 mos. later) and he reminded me of my normal mammo. I felt really 'stupid' for even pointing it out and told him that I was confused about what I was 'supposed' to be feeling. He wrote on my chart (that has since disappeared from my records) that patient doesn't like to do 'self-checks.'
9 mos after that normal mammogram what I DID feel was pain. The first pain I felt was an intense burning pain. My surgeon said that she thought that was the cancer breaking through the wall. After that it was an intense, sharp ache--reminded me of a mastitis infection that I had had 15 years earlier while nursing my youngest.
The pain in my breast was very much related to the cancer with which I was dx'd--3 different types of aggressive b.c. I was told that b.c. was slow growing--that it had been there for the past 5 to 10 years. However, at the point it becomes painful, it is often more advanced and aggressive. I had read (not been told) that if I were feeling pain there it was not likely to be cancer. My doctors took my feelings of sudden intense pain in my breast very seriously.

hello everyone and thanks for your feedback, it helps...
i saw my gyno yesterday and he is concerned, i am seeing a surgeon in the morning, he feels that it is fibroidadnoma, but wants the surgeon to confirm what the mass actually is. the symptoms i have i don't understand, i feel like i have the flu in this one part of my body, my right brest(armpit area and shoulder), i have burning pain and sometimes stabbing pain..
the first doctor told me that it was probably an exoskeletal problem and not to worry, well heck that was 14 months ago, and it's gradually gotten worse... my left breast does not feel like this at all. i hope that it turns out to be nothing, the waiting and stress of it is driving me crazy...
thanks.

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with this. Most breast lumps, about 80%, are not cancerous, so the odds are in your favor, including your age. However, some lumps do turn out to be malignant. You write that you are now feeling additional lumps besides the one you felt last summer. Have you reported this change to your physician? If not, it would be a good thing to have re-checked.
If you are still feeling concern you might want to get a 2nd opinion. Check around for referrals.

I have similar breast pain on one side. It only appears occasionally, but when it does, the pain radiates to the lymph nodes under my arm, along my collarbone, and sometimes in my groin. My younger sister (she's 40) was just diagnosed with Stage IV BC, so of course I have become much more aware of this pain. I became convinced I had massive tumors throughout my entire body. However, nothing showed up on the mammograms and the doctors don't seem concerned or even interested in this pain. I don't feel like I'm getting a medical brush-off. I think it's just their experience that breast pain hardly ever indicates cancer. The doctors are all over my other breast.
The mammogram revealed an area with microcalcifications. I had two needle biopsies and they found atypical hyperplasia, so now they want a bigger chunk. They're taking me very seriously because of my sister's diagnosis.

Good luck, and keep us posted. The waiting is scary. I was convinced that death was imminent, especially after they called me back for a second mammogram. I spent the week planning my funeral and putting my affairs in order. It was almost a letdown to hear that there were just a few crummy microcalcifications!
It is not what we have that will make us a great nation; it is the way in which we use it.

Minpinme, welcome to the forum I hope all went well for the topic starter and she is OK.

It seems to be quite rare to have pain when having breastcancer (that's why it is so dangerous)-

How are you doing now?

They told me that only about 10% of cancer cases have pain in tumor. I did but I think that is because the cancer cells were dying and causing inflammation from my body fighting them off. I am just starting my fight because I was mis-diagnosed because of the pain.

Debbie thanks so much for your support. My husband is so supportive. We are trying to work with onc but quite honestly my family and I are losing patience. I found lump 6 weeks ago and they still are "diagnosing" me. I have decided that Tuesday I am demanding to be treated or given a new onc that will treat me.

I went to see the surgeon and he is taking me in monday to biopsy two nodes in my chest. They are going to collapse my lung and then use a scope to biopsy the nodes. I must stay in hospital over night. I have not been in the hospital in 25 years since I have my youngest son. It is all scary to me. My doctor says the therapy will be determined by this test. Please pray all goes well. Many thanks!
