Hi all. I had abnormal mammogram 6 months ago - it showed microcalcifications. The radiologist suggested a needle biopsy and my doctor made me an appointment with a surgeon, but in the meantime the large core needle biopsy showed apocrine metaplasia - a "benign" change associated with fibrocystic changes. Just had 6-month follow-up mammogram which again showed "fibrocystic", dense tissue. They said another mammogram in 6 months. I want to relax about this but have read so much about people with dense breasts having cancer show up shortly after normal mammograms. Has anyone had apocrine metaplasia diagnosis only to have cancer develop later? Studies I have read are no help, some say benign, others say this can lead to cancer.

Hi back at you;
I think that you are probably in an "in-between" stage and the doctors are just monitoring you. They may have told you all that they know at this time. I can understand just how scary it can be to be in an "in-between" place when it comes to your health. But, remember this, if it were cancer, they would have acted on it by now.
Just keep having the screening tests. And read the "Related Posts" section listed underneath your post.
