I had removal of a breast duct 3 weeks ago for papilloma. For some reason the breast is still very sensitive (to touch, seatbelt, etc...) but not where the incision is (the area is opposite of the incision). My Dr. said to take Advil 3-4x a day for 7 -10 days and pain would go away. It hasn't helped at all. Sometimes I feel sharp pains with movement in this area. Is this normal? Any advice as to what might help? Incision looks fine- no redness anywhere. Thanks-JPA

JPA, Welcome to this site. When you have a surgery, usually the outside heals quicker than the inside. The inside often takes a long while because of swelling, and the amount of different layers and such (veins, nerves, muscle, etc.) involved in the surgery. Everyone's body has it's own timetable for healing. The Doctor gave you a generic "average" time quote - which is all anybody can give. You are taking longer. But, I would ask about something for dealing with the pain - if it is a real issue for you. There is help, but sometimes you must insist on it by being pro-active. Good Luck!

Thanks for your response... I've been an RN for 28 yrs., but life is different when you are the pt. I had a rotator cuff repair (with hardware placement) in Feb. and this has actually hurt worse than that, so I was perplexed (supppose the area is more sensitive, etc...). I needed reassurance that I was "normal". I only took 2 doses of pain meds after surgery, as it made me nauseated, so that may be part of the problem. Again, thanks! JPA
