Today I had to go in for a blood test. I had my second chemo, 10 days ago and because my w.b.c. was low (2.2), the oncologist had me give myself Neupogen last week on Mon, Wed, and Friday and then told me to come in today for a blood test. I also had a return appt. with the plastic surgeon. She had told me she wanted me there every 6 weeks until I had reconstruction (which I have just about decided I am not going to have at this point). However, today, she told me that I didn't have to come in any more because I lost enough weight for surgery. This m.d. is obsessed with weight which should have nothing to do with being accepted for reconstruction. She has outdated weight charts in each of the examining rooms. Although I have lost 26 lbs. since dx., I am not

She is supposed to be very good for pedicle tram flap reconstruction. At this point, however, I cannot fathom putting myself through another surgery that could take up to a year to recover from! Besides, I have no prob. with my new prosthese that mold to the shape of my skin. I don't feel any different than before I had surgery. I have gotten used to the scars and my husband doesn't mind. I am in better physical shape now (I think?) than before I was dx'd.
Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.
