Hello Pinkaster, welcome to the forum. I am very sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with cancer. It is different in every individual what to expect and how it influences their capabilities. I don't really think it would be a good idea to think of the worst case possibilities. What does your doctor say about this?

Hi Hamsa, Thanks for a quick reply to my first post. My doctor told me I "could" have problems with this for the rest of my life. (He also told me 3 weeks ago that my tumor "could" be cancer.)
I'm trying to find out as much information as possible so that I can be pro-active, not re-active. I want to know as much as possible before my sugery so that I can make sure that the most current techniques are used to minimize future problems.

Hi Pinkaster, for one or another obscure reason I don't know what happened but your first posting "disappeared" (I probably did something wrong - excuse me please)

I understand you, I know lymphoedema happens after treatment in the armpits. You can help prevent it by not puting too much strain on the lymphatic system, like avoiding infections or inflammations at the treated place and avoiding wounds, like cuts etc. and insect bites/stings. Also it can be helpful to exercise but you have to take care not to over-exercise because that can be harmful. Usually a physiotherapist can advise the exercises beneficial for preventing lymphoedema.

Hi Hamsa,
This is Debbie Baker. No I am not shy at all!!! I just joined the other night. I don't know anything about lymphodema. I just had my sentinel node removed, no cancer was found! So I haven't had any trouble with this issue yet, hopefully I won't. I know however, that exercise is wonderful for your immune system. I am a group exercise instructor. I started teaching again 2 mos after finishing my chemo. It was hard at first. That was in Sept. I teach 2 senior fit classes and a spinning class. As for finding out every bit of info on the inter-net made me a nervous wreck. I had to give it to God and trust that he would take care of me and my life was a gift from him. I was given lemons and I made lemonade!

Hello Debbie, welcome to the forum I am glad you joined here.

This sort of confirms what I tried to say above. Exercise IS important. It is good you are an exercise instructor so you are more or less knowledgeable of which exercises are good and which are not and the frequency they should be performed in.

I think the internet offers a lot of information, valuable etc. but indeed when concentrating on the worst it can turn someone into a wreck.

I'm glad to hear you're doing good

Debbie I would like to organize this place as well into getting a support group for eachother. Do you have any ideas how to go about that? I would like people to feel comfortable here and help each other.
