I`ve been taking tamoxifin for 6 months and have gained 20 pounds. For those of you who have taken this pill longer, did you keep gaining weight or did it taper off after the initial weight gain? Thanks.

I eventually gained fifty and then it leveled out.

gained 20 pounds in the first year, then was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I wish I had realized that weight gain was a side effect, and diabetes was rampant in my family. I would have eaten a lot differently and started an exercise program sooner. I was able to lose the 20 pounds and even an extra 10 pounds, but I`ve had to work very hard. I have 10 pounds to go and I`m looking forward to getting off the tamoxifen. That said, I`m glad I started the tamoxifen, after watching my mother die of breast cancer at a young age 30 years ago.

I`ve been taking Tamoxifin for 10 months. I initially lost about 10 lbs. (gained during Taxol portion of chemo) and then gained most of it back when I started taking clonidine to help with the hot flashes.
I have checked myself into Weight Watchers to keep from gaining any more weight and to, hopefully, lose the 40 I`ve gained over the last 15 years or so.

Thanks for all the replies regarding Tamoxifin and weight gain. I guess I`d better get hard at work to lose some weight. I was always thin and I think I would feel much better if I lost about 20 pounds.

I was scared silly out of my mind about the diabetes so I was very motivated. I started acting like a diabetic who wanted to stay in control without using meds for as long as I could. I started a power walking program (3-5) miles per day. I had a meeting with a dietician and we worked out a food plan designed just for me. That was great because I`m a very picky eater. Because I`m diabetic, I counted carbohydrates, which also lowered my calories. I lost weight very slowly, about 3-4 pounds a month. They say if you lose weight slowly it`s more likely to stay off and I can attest to this. I`ve had foot and hip problems and have had to stop walking and cut back the distance several times. Although I would stop losing, I didn`t gain any of the weight back. Hope this helps.

Thanks Louise. I really must give something a try. I`ve always been on the slender side and I just don`t feel right with this weight gain. I`m going to try watching the carbs and start some sort of exercise program.

Hi, I am debating whether or not to stop taking Tamoxifin. At first I considered it a get out of cancer free card but now I"m not so sure. Does it help with occurrence of ovarian cancer? I did gain about forty pounds on it it has stabilized but it makes it difficult to lose weight.but I don't really care about that. What side effects have people been experiencing?

Hi Friend I was on it and I was sore but was glad to know it would help me keep the cancer away. Are you taking high doses. I know the side effect sometime make you weigh the treatment. But it is so nice when you can say I did it,
