You know - this is a good question. Thank you. I have found out that taking the medication for the five years is mostly tradition. I have yet to find a reason why 5 and not 6 or 4.
You survivors on this site who have ended their five year regime, let us know how you are feeling, and how it went when you first stopped the medication. Let's hear from you.

I have been off Tamoxifen for 14 months now. I was told it takes about a year for the medication to leave your system.
4 months ago, I started getting spots/acne on my face and back. Apparently my hormones have come back and are raging like a teenager again.
I am 38. I had my breast cancer aged 31.
I have been discharged from my consultant so have no one to ask or turn to to ask about future effects of Tamoxifen.
My periods are not regular still.
I tire easily. I did gain weight when I started Tamoxifen, then it settled down, then I gained weight again when I came off Tamoxifen, and has also settled down again.

No one seems to know the answer to Life after Tamoxifen, but it is something some of us have to go through to find out for others.
Hope all BC survivors are taking care of themselves.
I kinda stumbled onto this webpage and felt compelled to write my experience so far for others.
